45 min Pain Reprocessing Therapy (PRT), is a scientifically supported approach to treating chronic pain and other chronic symptoms. PRT aims to rewire neural pathways in the brain in order to deactivate pain. Recent research involving chronic pain has shown that many conditions like chronic back pain, neck pain, fibromyalgia, repetitive strain injuries, migraine headaches and other forms of chronic pain are often not the results of structural causes like tissue damage or disease, but rather learned neural pathways in the brain which can be reversed. This type of pain is known as Neuroplastic pain.
PRT is geared towards this type of pain and uses a system of brain-body techniques which retrain the brain to respond to signals from the body properly, and subsequently break the cycle of chronic pain.
Techniques used in PRT include mindfulness, breath awareness, safety reappraisal, expressive writing, motivational coaching and somatic tracking. One of the other techniques used in PRT is retraining the patient out of conditional fear responses which often occur in chronic pain. Often, chronic pain patients develop conditioned responses – the brain creates an association between certain physical activities and the onset of pain (i.e. walking leads to back pain, typing leads to wrist pain, etc.) Another component of PRT involves helping patients break these associations, so that patients can engage in physical activities without pain and get back into there life with a sense of freedom and empowerment.
Jessica has underwent extensive training under the worlds leading chronic pain experts including Alan Gordon and Dr Howard Schubiner to help bring this modern day treatment to Canada.
