“A Surrey Gem Did you know that the best dentist in the world has had his practice tucked away in a humble corner of Surrey for the last 30+ years? When we moved to Birdland 25 years ago, our neighbor told us that the best dentist in Surrey was Dr. Glenn Wong and that we should definitely take our growing family to him. When GP’s and specialists came and went, Dr. Wong faithfully stayed on. Even when he moved to North Vancouver, he made the long commute to Surrey for half the week to continue treating his long-time patients. For many years, he had a wonderful assistant named Tara and he still employs a lovely receptionist, Patricia, who is always happy and helpful, not to mention extremely competent. He was always there. Whether it was trying to figure out why our youngster had more cavities than his siblings, or giving us the latest research about nutrition, Dr. Wong has always looked out for our family. Early on, our young family needed to move abroad to a village on top of a mountain to work with a non-profit organization. Dr. Wong found out about the water quality of where we were going and ended up buying all five of us a three-year supply of the top brand electric tooth brushes and toothpaste with extra fluoride. “I don’t want you coming back with a mouth full of cavities”, he said. Then, three years later, when we came home, Dr. Wong performed thousands of dollars of dental work on our children right away because he did not want to risk damage to their adult teeth if we waited the three months before our dental plan kicked in. He insisted on doing the work without cost. Then there was the time that our friend who also worked abroad, came to visit us and chipped her tooth. It was very painful and she wasn’t going back to India for months. We called Dr. Wong’s emergency line and he saw our friend the next day and put the temporary fix in it to stop the pain. He refused payment of any kind for his work. He is always helping us out, never cutting corners and always going above and beyond to do what is best for his patients. Just recently, my business shut down due to COVID-19. I was totally prepared to pay for our cleanings, but when I got the bill, it was only a small percentage of what I had expected to pay. I was overwhelmed by his kindness. Then, after that, my oldest son went to get his teeth fixed before he left the country to go to school and do volunteer work. He had finished university, so was no longer covered under dental. Dr. Wong not only fixed his teeth for free, but encouraged my son in the work that he is planning on doing. Speaking of volunteering, Dr. Wong used to regularly take his entire team down to Mexico to do two-week free dental clinics in impoverished areas. With all of the ups and downs in our lives over the past quarter of a century, it has been wonderful to be able to rely on Dr. Wong’s tremendous talent and skill as a dentist, as well as his kind and caring ways. Even when his dental hygienists make mistakes, he patiently instructs them when others would have gotten angry. Over the years, he has always had a word of encouragement or constructive feedback about limiting sugar, or nuts or wearing our nightguards. Dr. Wong is always there to take care of us. Today, I after he spent 1.5 hours preparing my tooth for a crown (I broke it on an almond- just as he had warned me!), I felt so grateful for how Dr. Wong has kept my family and many other families healthy over the years. He deserves to be celebrated, but is so humble, he would never accept any accolades. Dr. Wong has a moral code that he lives by and runs his business by and for that I truly admire him. He is truly a gem that I wish to acknowledge. As Walt Whitman once said, “A great city is that which has the greatest men and women”. Surrey is great because of people like Dr. Glenn Wong. Now, my grandson is moving to BC and you can be sure that I will be taking him to the best dentist in the world- dear Dr. Wong on Grosvenor Road!”Lire la suiteRéduire
