Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive treatment that uses low, constant electrical currents delivered via scalp electrodes to modulate brain activity and excitability. Approved by Health Canada, tDCS shows promise for treating symptoms of several neurological and psychiatric conditions, including major depression, anxiety, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), chronic and neuropathic pain, stroke - related impairments, Alzheimers - related impairments, and ADHD. It is also being researched for use in treating symptoms of conditions such as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), dementia, Parkinson’s - related impairments, multiple sclerosis (MS), and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Often enhancing the effects of other therapies, such as physical or speech therapy, tDCS has been shown to help improve memory, language, motor function, and overall neuroplasticity. The initial tDCS assessment appointment lasts approximately one hour and includes a comprehensive interview to understand your symptoms, medical history, and treatment goals, followed by your first tDCS treatment session. We generally recommend a minimum of 10 sessions to adequately evaluate whether you are experiencing therapeutic benefits. Subsequent treatments typically last 30-45 minutes and can be scheduled following the initial assessment.
