Not everyone wants to sit in a room and talk about
their feelings—and that's okay.
Hi there! My name is Angus Valleau.
I am happy to be working with the Island Clinical Counselling team as a Canadian Certified Counsellor. I hold a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a master’s degree in Clinical Counselling.
I have extensive experience working with both children and adults, many of whom are neurodiverse. My approach is inclusive, and I aim to reduce stigma that sometimes surrounds mental health and related challenges. I strongly believe in treating others with “unconditional positive regard,” which means trusting the best in people and respecting different perspectives and ways of being.
In my practice, I follow a trauma-informed approach and often use cognitive-based modalities like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), but I also incorporate other techniques from modalities such as Emotion-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and systemic-based approaches.
A Note on Movement:
Not everyone is comfortable talking about their feelings or experiences, and that’s okay. There are many ways to support mental health, including movement-based approaches like dance, expressive arts, or somatic therapies. These methods can help you connect with your body and mind without requiring a lot of talking about difficult topics. Physical movement and mental health are closely linked. Even if your main focus is on cognitive-emotional wellbeing, learning about how your body moves and responds can be very helpful. Sometimes, understanding your body’s responses—like feelings of anxiety, fear, anger, or even excitement—can help you stay more balanced during stressful moments.
Remember, there is no one right way to do therapy. Everyone is different, and I believe in offering options that best suit your needs. I look forward to seeing you at Island Clinical Counselling!
