About Cayla
Cayla Dee Thorlakson is a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology practicum student offering counselling services under the supervision of her supervisor, Wendy Ryden, RCSW.
She has a background in pastoral care and counselling and several years of experience providing support in addictions recovery, hospital and corporate chaplaincy, post-secondary, and community settings. Her counselling style is warm, client-centred, and trauma-informed, drawing primarily from humanistic, narrative, emotion-focused, and Motivational Interviewing approaches to help clients explore their stories and build on existing strengths.
Dee is particularly interested in the connection between physical health and emotional well-being and is in the process of specializing in psychotherapy for the mental and emotional side of physical conditions including insomnia, IBS, GI disorders, chronic pain, and chronic illness. She also has experience working with neurodivergence, including those with ADHD and Autism.
Areas of focus may include:
· Stress, anxiety, and low mood
· Grief and life transitions
· Impacts of chronic health concerns (e.g., pain, fatigue, insomnia, IBS, GI issues)
· Christian faith and spirituality, if requested by the client

· Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), including CBT-i for insomnia
· Solution-focused strategies and Motivational Interviewing
