About Hilary
“Therapy is a space to be seen, heard, and understood—to explore meaning, grow through challenges, and reconnect with your authentic self.”
As a Therapist, I believe mental wellness comes from living in alignment with who you truly are. Counselling provides an opportunity to slow down, reflect, and understand the patterns that shape your emotions, relationships, and choices. Together, we’ll uncover what’s getting in your way and build tools for healing, balance, and self‑connection.
A Creative and Experiential Approach
My therapeutic approach is grounded in existential and person‑centered therapy, integrating experiential, narrative, play, and trauma‑informed methods.
In our sessions:
You set the pace, and we focus on what feels most important to you.
We create space for authenticity, curiosity, and meaning.
We explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in the context of your life story.
Counselling with me may include both traditional talk therapy and creative, experiential methods designed to help you connect beyond words. Over a decade of working with neurodivergent young people and older adults with dementia has taught me to be flexible with my sessions. We can turn out the lights and talk in the dark. We can pass notes about things that are too hard to say out loud. We can use action figures or music to make sense of complicated feelings. There’s no one right way to do therapy and with so many different tools to access, we’ll work together to find what is best for you.
Words aren’t always enough to express or process what we feel. My background as a Certified Music Therapist (MTA) allows me to bring music therapy and other creative therapeutic techniques into the counselling process. These approaches can help you explore emotions, build self‑awareness, and heal in new and meaningful ways.
Who I Work With
I work with kids, adolescents, neurodivergent individuals, and older adults, offering developmentally-appropriate approaches at each life stage. For my younger clients, I use creative and experiential approaches to explore authenticity, emotions, and relationships. For my older clients, the focus is a bit more on meaning-making, transitions, and emotional well-being.
Areas of Focus:
I work with children, teens, adults, and families, providing a warm, supportive space to navigate life's challenges, strengthen relationships, and build lasting resilience.
Child & Teen Counselling: I support children and teens experiencing anxiety, ADHD, autism, behavioural challenges, emotional regulation difficulties, school refusal, academic stress, self-esteem concerns, identity development, and social challenges.
Parenting & Family Support: I help parents and families strengthen communication, navigate family conflict, adjust to life transitions, and work through parenting challenges, adoption, infertility, and changing family dynamics.
Anxiety, Depression & Stress: I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, panic, depression, burnout, workplace stress, grief, and major life transitions, helping them build practical coping strategies and emotional resilience.
Trauma & Emotional Healing: I provide support for individuals working through trauma, PTSD, complex trauma, emotional abuse, neglect, and other difficult life experiences in a safe and compassionate environment.
Relationships & Personal Growth: I help clients improve relationships, strengthen communication, build self-esteem, explore identity, navigate career and life transitions, and find greater purpose and meaning.
What Clients Say
Clients often tell me they feel safe, understood, and supported in our work together. Though my jokes are terrible and teens say that I'm 'cringe', they appreciate my flexibility in making sessions work for them and creating spaces where they feel comfortable opening up.
A Bit About Me
I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist in Alberta with a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology and over ten years of experience as a Certified Music Therapist. Originally from Cape Breton, I’ve lived in Calgary since 2014. Outside of my counselling practice, I love reading, playing trumpet in a community band, spending time with my dog, and making things by hand—whether crafts, art, or music.
