Welcome to Laurel Z RD! I'm Laurel, a Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, and Certified Bariatric Educator. I completed my dietetics degree at the University of British Columbia and my internship in Kelowna, before returning to my hometown of Calgary to begin my career. I’ve spent over a decade working in endocrinology clinics as a Certified Diabetes Educator, specializing in the care of individuals with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes. Since 2019, I’ve also focused on the science of weight, overweight, and obesity as a chronic disease, helping to develop a program that supports individuals through evidence-based education and care. Throughout my journey, I have completed several training courses to support individuals living with overweight or obesity such as Health not Weight, Advanced Obesity Counselling Certificate, and received my Certification as a Bariatric Educator with Obesity Canada. My approach is rooted in clinical experience and guided by the Diabetes Canada Clinical Practice Guidelines and the Adult Obesity Clinical Practice Guidelines. I’m passionate about helping people understand the science behind diabetes and/or weight management and supporting them on their journey to better health. Available to see patients located in Alberta and British Columbia with current registration in both provinces.
