Lindsey Materi
À propos de Lindsey
Dans ses motsLindsey’s journey as both an athlete and professional strength coach has given him a deep understanding of the “training paradox.” This paradox reveals that as we specialize to build specific skills, we inevitably create physical imbalances, which can negatively impact our overall performance. So, how do we navigate this? The answer lies in recognizing that training isn’t a fixed destination but an ongoing process of evolution. While your training goals may stay the same, the methods, strategies, and techniques to achieve them are always evolving. In this sense, the gym is not just a place—it’s an ever-changing journey of growth.
Growing up in the weight room, Lindsey was influenced by close family friends who dominated in bodybuilding, competed at the World’s Strongest Man finals, and made their mark as legendary wrestlers in the WWF, WWE, and WCW. His formal introduction to the gym began during off-season training for Team Canada’s U/17 development program. That same year, at just 16 years old, Lindsey became the only goaltender to play in the WHL during the 95-96 season. Hockey ignited his passion for training, but the gym soon became more than just preparation—it became a refuge. In a sport often defined by subjective judgment and deterministic outcomes, the gym offered something different: a space where effort was directly rewarded. The bar doesn’t lie. For Lindsey, the weight room became a place of empowerment, a space where hard work and dedication were the ultimate measure of success.
Lindsey brings a uniquely diverse, multi-sport background to his practice, shaped by both his athletic career and extensive professional experience. As an athlete, he competed at high levels across a range of sports, including:
Hockey Canada’s Development Program (Team Pacific)
The Western Hockey League (WHL)
University-level hockey
Field lacrosse and hockey with the Notre Dame Hounds
Calgary Axemen Lacrosse
Velodrome cycling
Speed skating through Own The Podium
University and Team Alberta weightlifting
Lindsey’s professional experience is equally multi-disciplinary. He has worked with athletes and organizations across a wide variety of sports, including:
The Edmonton Elks (CFL)
Alpine Canada
Rugby Canada and Rugby Alberta
Volleyball Canada Centre of Excellence
Alberta Sport Development Centre – Capital Region
Dive Canada
Archery Alberta
Snowboard Alberta
University of Calgary Dinos Alpine Skiing
Swim Alberta and the Olympian Swim Club
Canmore Figure Skating Club
Warren Jobbitt Snowsports
This broad exposure has given Lindsey a deep appreciation for the physical and mental demands of sport across different disciplines and competitive levels. With experience that spans ice, field, water, snow, and strength-based sports, he has truly “almost seen it all.”
Today, Lindsey’s passion is to help you break through limitations—whether mental or physical—and surpass self-imposed ceilings in movement and performance.

###What does Lindsey do for fun?
For fun, Lindsey stays active with a mix of outdoor adventures and creative pursuits. He’s often found lifting weights or powerlifting, challenging himself to hit new personal bests. When he's not in the gym, you might catch him on a mountain bike trail, road cycling, or carving through the snow on his alpine skis. If the mood strikes, he picks up his drumsticks and rocks out, embracing the rhythm of his favorite music. Traveling to music concerts is another passion, where he gets to soak in the energy of live shows and discover new artists. Lindsey is also a bookworm, often diving into philosophy for a fresh perspective on life. And when he’s feeling particularly inspired, he’s studying Italian, always striving to learn something new and expand his horizons. Whether it’s through sport, music, or learning, Lindsey keeps his life full of movement and discovery.
