Please note that Mavis sees individuals ages 5-18 exclusively.
Areas of interest include: children 5+, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorders, trauma, life transitions (grief and/or parental separation), core social skills, Animal-Assisted Therapy.
About Mavis: Mavis is a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Concordia University of Edmonton and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
Mavis has experience of school counselling, facilitating group therapy of Training in Core Social Skills, while also having worked with children and youth through a trauma informed scope.
Mavis believes that genuine connection is at the heart of effective therapeutic services. She is known for her authenticity, empathetic, compassionate and nonjudgmental approaches that help her strive to create safe spaces where clients feel seen, heard and comfortable. She values collaboration and working alongside clients to help them achieve their therapeutic goals through meaningful growth and change.
Mavis’ clinical work pulls from numerous approaches like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Informed, Narrative Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based therapies.
Her areas of focus include; trauma, children and youth, social skills development, grief, anxiety, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder and other various mental health concerns.
Mavis supports clients to gain greater self-awareness and confidence, stronger coping skills, and deeper emotional resilience.
Looking ahead, she hopes to pursue EMDR training, and become a Registered Play Therapist. In addition, Mavis hopes to incorporate animal-assisted therapy into her practice, recognizing the important role animals can play in healing.
When Mavis is not working, she loves spending time at home on her farm with her 3 kids and husband while also making core memories through travel.
