Dans ses motsMichelle Coulombe has a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology (Family Specialization), both from the University of British Columbia. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor in good standing with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
Since 1991, Michelle has been working with a diverse range of individuals and groups, including: children, adolescents, families, “at-risk” and street-involved youth, First Nations clients, university/college students of all ages, people on income assistance, and people with mental health issues. She has worked for Richmond Youth Service Agency, Pacific Children’s Shelter Society, Mental Patients Association, Family Services of Greater Vancouver, Kwantlen University College, and Interlock Employee and Family Assistance Corporation. She has provided intake assessment, crisis intervention, individual, family, couples, and group counselling as well as workshops and corporate team-building events.
Her areas of interest include depression, suicidal ideation, stress management, anxiety and/or panic attacks, marital and relationship issues, parenting, family of origin, sexual orientation, grief and loss, career exploration and assessment, time management, anger management, self-esteem, assertiveness, boundaries, communication skills, study skills, goal-setting, decision-making, and conflict resolution.
Michelle’s counselling is collaborative in nature, with the client and therapist participating as equal partners in both goal-setting and working together to reach those goals. She uses an integrative approach to counselling and psychotherapy, drawing upon: family systems therapy, Satir’s family therapy, marriage and couples counselling, feminist theory, humanistic-existential therapy, cognitive-behavioural therapy, gestalt therapy, relaxation therapy, and guided visualization, depending on the unique needs of the client.
