À propos de Mikayla
Dans ses motsWelcome to made for you counselling and psychotherapy; a space to breathe, connect, heal, and thrive. Mikayla is passionate about bringing holistic and person-centered mental health care to Sicamous. Growing up on beautiful Mara Lake nurtured her deep affinity to nature, a passion for extreme sports, and an appreciation for the Shuswap lifestyle.
From a young age, Mikayla aspired to help others. At the University of British Columbia, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts majoring in psychology and minoring in anthropology. During her undergraduate studies, Mikayla became eager to seek a modality that prioritized and celebrated the uniqueness of the human condition and empowered individuals instead of pathologizing them. This inspired her to pursue a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy, which she received from the University of Adelaide, Australia.
Mikayla’s professional experience involves working with children and young persons exposed to trauma, family and systemic work, re-unification programs, and court-appointed therapy for youth. Passionate about working with vulnerable populations, communities, and families, Mikayla utilizes a trauma-informed lens and strength-based approach. Additionally, Mikayla aims to tailor her work to each individual’s needs; incorporating aspects of attachment theory, narrative therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and cognitive-behavioural therapy as appropriate.
Mikayla actively works with individuals, couples, and adults that are facing a range of biopsychosocial concerns; including stress, anxiety, depression, grief & loss, trauma symptoms, self-harm, family dysfunction, attachment and relationship repair, identity conflict, parenting needs, emotional regulation, and challenging life events and transitions.
Mikayla wholeheartedly views people as insightful beings, capable of writing their own story, of self-growth, and of managing the challenges in their life. With this in mind, Mikayla offers a genuine and understanding posture from which people can feel heard, appreciated, and supported.
Outside of her professional commitments, Mikayla enjoys spending time in nature, quality time with her family and friends, and playing with her dogs Darby and Roxy. Mikayla finds pleasure in reading historical fiction, doing photography, and participating in year-round sporting activities; such as, volleyball, skiing, and surfing.
