Monique Mathew
À propos de Monique
Dans ses motsI have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT/EFIT) for individuals, couples and families and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) for the treatment of past trauma and present day triggers. I have worked in community mental health, schools, and private practice settings in the US and Canada, with a focus on providing therapy to individuals from marginalized communities. I draw from mindfulness and somatic approaches in my work, and provide a holistic and non-judgmental approach to therapy that supports building greater confidence, deepening your understanding (and warmth!) toward yourself, as well as developing greater trust in your own growth process. In working with couples, I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (widely considered the "gold standard" modality for couples therapy) to create a safe space where we will explore your relationship history and current challenges, work together to understand the places where you might get stuck as a couple, and help you to connect, communicate and care for each other's needs in new ways that feel better for both of you. In my work with both individuals and couples, my priority is for you to feel as comfortable, safe, and understood as possible, so that you can truly relax and receive the support that you deserve to work on your innermost goals of healing and personal growth.
My background prior to social work and therapy has involved studying visual arts and work in the non-profit arts sector, apprenticing for many years with a traditional indigenous healer in Peru, living and working in several countries, a decades-long yoga and meditation practice and continual studies of Eastern and Western spirituality and mysticism. I enjoy bridging these wisdom practices with psychotherapy, as it supports my recognition of the profundity of each client's journey, their unique gifts, challenges and wisdom, and a belief in our tremendous capacity for growth and change at any stage in our lifetime.
