Nadine Nakagawa
À propos de Nadine
Dans ses motsHello and welcome! My name is Nadine and I am a student counsellor working from an intersectional, anti-oppressive, and harm reductive approach that considers collective and community healing. I live and work as a settler on the unceded and stolen territory of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking people.
I identify as a queer, non-disabled Hāfu woman and I strive to bring art, creativity, and embodiment to my practice. In our sessions together, you can expect gentle affirmation and validation of your lived experiences with incorporation of the structural and systemic factors that impact and oppress us.
The approaches that are most aligned with me:
Narrative therapy – exploring our stories and beliefs as external to our identities
Person-centred therapy – focusing on empathy and unconditional positive regard
Somatics – focusing on connecting mind and body to understand how emotions may show up in our bodies
Arts and creativity – exploring non-verbal ways of knowing and understanding through visual, embodied, or written arts
Outside of counselling, I am a creative writer, a nature and animal lover, a community organizer, and a fledgling painter. I live with three cats (allergy alert for in-person sessions), run a campaign school for underrepresented people, and am a City Councillor in New Westminster.
