About Polly
I have been a clinical social worker in Vancouver for almost 25 years. During that time, I’ve
worked in acute and community-based health care settings and developed a special interest in
chronic health management, substance use, adjusting to and coping with a health crisis and
managing personal and professional transitions.
I work with clients undergoing a variety of life
changes, supporting them individually and sometimes as a couple or family.
Challenging situations can occur suddenly or develop overtime, often making people feel destabilized and
uncertain. Understanding yourself and your current circumstance, building skills, and developing tools
and strategies supports your ability to move forward, pivot as needed and thrive.
To create physical change, people need to move and develop their body; the same concept is true for
psychological wellness. Taking time to address issues helps support personal resiliency and growth.
If
you are experiencing change, turmoil, or struggling to adjust to something in your life, let me help you
move.
Whether it is a cancer or other mental or physical health diagnosis, relationship strain, life adjustment or
shift, end of life considerations including grief and bereavement, stress, or help coping, you and I can
work together to support you in moving forward with ease and psychological wellness.
I work attentively and with compassion when people are in a time of transition or change. I aim to support
you with your experiences, identify barriers and help you make better sense of challenges. In sessions, I
follow your pacing, walk alongside you, trusting your instincts. Together we can explore and resolve
your issue(s) enabling you to move forward with a wellness approach that meets your needs and goals.
My counselling approach is grounded in a variety of therapeutic modalities depending on your needs
including cognitive behavioral therapies (CBT), mindfulness practices, motivational strategies, stress
reduction approaches and self-care techniques within a systems, trauma informed and culturally sensitive
strengths perspective. My style is genuine, curious, open and non-judgmental. Jointly, in a safe and
respectful way, we can explore pieces of your life that may no longer serve you, while learning about and
then connecting with your strengths, capabilities and new identities.
