Samuel Orji, MMP, MC, CCC, is a Registered Provisional Psychologist who works from a culturally informed and strength-based lens with children (10+), teens, adults, couples, families, and 2SLGBTQ+ persons, focusing on anxiety, depression, self-esteem, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, and fostering positive systemic changes. Samuel practices under the supervision of Charles Coleman and is a Doctor of Psychology Student who completed his Master of Counselling from the City University of Seattle. He completed his internship at the Calgary Counselling Center and has experience working with people with diverse presenting concerns from his other work experiences. Prior to a career in Counselling, Samuel worked in human resources and obtained a Master’s in Managerial Psychology from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Samuel is passionate about understanding how systems and trauma impact and interact with people’s mental health. From a systemic lens, Samuel works to uncover patterns fuelling the problem and the strengths inherent in the client’s story and to help them move towards positive shifts. Samuel works with adults, couples and families, teens, young adults, and children. Samuel aims to inspire hope and help people thrive. Samuel’s work with couples and families focuses on concerns about communication, intimacy, separation and divorce, co-parenting, blended family, and infidelity. His work with individuals focuses on emotional and mood challenges, stress and exhaustion, addictive behaviours, and careers. As a substance abuse professional (SAP), he conducts back-to-work evaluations for people with substance use issues. Samuel works closely with persons in the 2SLGBTQ+ community and considers himself a strong ally. In his work in therapy, Samuel adopts culturally-informed practices to better appreciate clients’ worldviews and beliefs in ways that honour, validate, and foster a solid working relationship with them. He enjoys celebrating the sparkling moments in his clients’ stories and especially appreciates the healing power of sharing heartfelt laughter. Samuel loves reading, connecting with family and friends, cooking, music, going to the gym, taking walks, riding his bike, and writing.
