well as couples and family therapy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in clinical psychology
and a master’s and Ph.D. in Counseling from Iran, and brings nearly 30 years of clinical
counseling experience, alongside 20 years of teaching as a university faculty member.
Jamal is passionate about forming strong therapeutic relationships with clients facing a
range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, loneliness, anger, and
obsessive thoughts. He views therapy as a collaborative journey, where both the client
and therapist progress together step by step. His approach is deeply rooted in
humanistic principles, and he draws upon techniques such as CBT, Person-Centered
Therapy (PCT), ACT, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and systemic
approaches to family and couples therapy to support his clients’ growth.
As an immigrant clinical counselor, Jamal has personal insight into the psychological
challenges related to migration, including cultural shock and crises in personal and
family dynamics that often accompany relocation.
Beyond his clinical work, Jamal is passionate about running and hiking. Since 2018, he
has competed in several full and half marathons across Canada and the United States.
Jamal chose to work with Coal harbour Clinic because of the welcoming, collaborative
nature of the team, the clinic's emphasis on respecting clients, and its commitment to
delivering high-quality, professional services aimed at enhancing client well-being.
