Sheila received her bachelor’s degree from San Jose State University, and continued her studies at Golden Gate University and received her master's in psychological counselling with an emphasis in marriage and family therapy.
Sheila comes to Alleviate with plenty of experience in all modalities of therapy. Throughout her graduate degree, Sheila interned at a non-public school providing therapy to students who have emotional disturbances and intellectual disabilities. This role provided her the opportunity to work with a diverse client base expanding her experience to working with clients who live with Personality Disorders, Depression, Anxiety, Autism, Grief, and Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
She entered the private practice world after obtaining her associate license in California. Maintaining both positions of a school based therapist and working with clients in the traditional therapy setting she was able to gain varied experience. Utilizing both in person sessions and telehealth she worked with a caseload of 40 clients to help them meet their therapeutic goals.
Sheila provides a safe space for all her clients and enjoys catering each session to her client’s needs. In an empathetic and non-judgmental setting, Sheila allows space for her clients to feel comfortable to express themselves. She caters her modalities based on her client’s needs and uses a modality that suits them and their goals. Predominantly using cognitive behavioral therapy, she also enjoys mindfulness, narrative therapy, play therapy, solution focused therapy, PARTs work and emotional focused therapy, and she has added eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR) to her list of modalities.
Working with all ages is something that she takes pride in, she has worked with children as young as 3 as well as adults of all ages and seniors. Catering to her clients needs and meeting them exactly where they are at is the foundation of therapy with Sheila and she hopes to see you soon in session.
