Please note that an available appointment time does not guarantee it will be booked. I intentionally maintain some flexibility in my schedule to ensure I can provide high-quality care and respond to the varying needs of my practice.
My name is Steven Butler, commonly known as "The Big Friendly Therapist". I am a Licensed Counselling Therapist (LCT) with the College of Licensed Counselling Therapists of NB (CCTNB) and a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA).
My passion lies with working closely with young adults (16 and above) and adults in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community - providing gender affirming care. I also am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is a structured therapy that encouraged client to work through their trauma by using bi-lateral stimulation. I use an integrative, evidence-based approach to psychotherapy, drawing from person-centred and humanistic frameworks, queer theory, and evidence-based modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT, IFS, and affirmative therapy.
I work with folks who are wanting to work through anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and loss, open relationships, life transitions, gender identity and sexual orientation exploration, and relationship struggles (I currently do not offer couples counselling). I work at being anti-racist, affirmative, all the while being non-judgemental.
