About Valerie
Valerie believes that healing begins when people feel truly seen, heard, and safe. Her approach is grounded in the understanding that the mind and body are deeply connected, and that many of life's emotional struggles are reflected in the nervous system. She creates a calm, compassionate space where clients can slow down, reconnect with themselves, and move toward lasting change.
Drawing on 25 years as an educator and a lifetime of personal resilience, Valerie offers compassionate, trauma-informed counselling that helps clients reconnect with themselves, regulate their nervous systems, and move toward meaningful, lasting change. She believes that every person has an innate capacity for healing and that lasting growth begins when people feel safe enough to listen to the wisdom of both their minds and their bodies.
Before becoming a clinical counsellor, Valerie spent 25 years supporting children, families, and communities within the BC school system. As both a mother and grandmother, she brings decades of professional experience, patience, and empathy to every therapeutic relationship.
Valerie's own life experiences have shaped her belief in the resilience of the human spirit. Having navigated significant adversity herself, she understands the courage it takes to heal and strives to provide a compassionate, non-judgmental space where clients feel supported throughout their journey.
Her practice supports adults experiencing anxiety, depression, grief, burnout, chronic stress, chronic pain, major life transitions, menopause and healthy aging, as well as neurodivergent individuals, including those living with ADHD and autism. She works from a trauma-informed, nervous system-focused perspective, helping clients better understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, physical sensations, and behaviours.
Valerie is particularly passionate about helping clients regulate their nervous systems, quiet the inner critic, and develop practical tools to create greater balance and emotional well-being.
She is currently expanding her knowledge through advanced study in Polyvagal Theory and the Window of Tolerance to further support clients recovering from prolonged stress and trauma.
Valerie earned her Counselling Therapist Diploma from Stenberg College and is a Master Practitioner in Clinical Counselling – Provisional (MPCC-P) and a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC). She is a member of the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association (CPCA).
Outside the clinic, Valerie enjoys walking Victoria's beautiful trails, gardening, spending time by the ocean with a cup of tea, and making memories with her three grandchildren.
