Irina utilizes a trauma-informed approach focusing on clients’ strengths and resiliency in helping them towards change and healing. She works collaboratively with her clients in creating a safe, non-judgmental space based on trust, acceptance, and compassion.
Irina has worked in different roles with clients with an extensive array of concerns including depression, anxiety, ADHD, autism, Borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, Down syndrome, relationship issues, and general mental health. Coming into counselling after many years of practice as an educator with an interest in Psychopathology and Mindfulness allows Irina to help clients acquire the proper skills to cope with adversities.
Irina believes that health and well-being are directly related to relationships. She supports clients build healthy relationships with themselves and others by integrating self-care and self-compassion techniques. Irina utilizes different modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy in supporting diverse populations of adults, teens, and children. She also uses Gottman Couples Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, and Mindfulness practices to support couples and families in addressing their challenges.
Irina considers the relationship between client and therapist to be of the utmost importance. Therefore, she offers a free 20-minute consultation over the phone or video online. This provides the opportunity for clients to ask any questions and ensure Irina is a good fit for them.
Irina is a Registered Provisional Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists.
