These examinations are done in order to assess pelvic floor strength and endurance, the state of the vaginal and/or rectal walls, and severity of prolapse (if any), among other potential conditions. You must give informed consent for these examinations to be done, and you can withdraw consent at any time. We recommend coming to your appointment in comfortable clothing, and to time your appointment for when you are not menstruating. We strongly recommend for patients who do not speak English fluently, that a trusted third party be present in order to provide translation.
