Fire cupping is a traditional therapy, often used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, that involves creating suction on the skin using heated glass cups to promote blood flow which in turn will reduce pain and inflammation. A flammable substance drenched in alcohol is briefly burned and placed inside the glass cup, creating a vacuum and the cup is placed on the skin to cause the suction. Fire cupping can address muscle pain, joint pain and certain respiratory concerns. Gua sha is a traditional therapy, often used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, where a smooth-edged tool (often made of jade, ox horn or rose quartz) is used to scape the skin, aiming to improve circulation, reduce inflammation and relieve pain and tension. Gua Sha can address musculoskeletal problems like muscle tightness and pain, tension headaches and migraines and facial rejuvenation and lymphatic drainage (when used gently on the face).

What it is

Most of this hour is spent face down or in a relaxed seated position while the practitioner places and moves cups across broad muscle areas, then leaves some in place to create suction marks — often with fewer needles than a standard acupuncture visit — and you walk out with those marks and a sense of how your body responded.
