“This dentist clinic made me feel at home. I felt so heard and cared for. After leaving my appointment I seriously felt like maybe I won’t ever move back to my home province… My hygienist was informative, validating, and provided valuable knowledge about my oral health I had never considered. The dentist was kind, attentive, thorough, yet efficient. The front desk receptionist was caring and helpful; she is a straight to the point kind of gal, and she went above and beyond in explaining the details of payment and insurance to me because she wanted to help save me money. “I’ve been a patient of Dr. Kanini’s for 15 years, and I can’t imagine going anywhere else. Dr. Kanini is an outstanding dentist…..so kind, thorough, and always attentive to my needs. He takes the time to explain every step of the process, ensuring I feel at ease and informed. To top it off, today he had to give me a numbing injection, and even though I usually cringe at the sight of a syringe, I didn’t feel a thing! Love him ! The entire team is just as amazing. Celine and Tessa, the hygienists, are gentle and meticulous, making every cleaning a breeze. Colleen, the dental assistant, is warm and supportive, and the receptionists are always welcoming and incredibly patient. “I had a pretty negative experience with the front desk staff. The cleaning and dentist care was fine. When I went to pay and reviewed my invoice it was wrong (I was being charged for more time spent cleaning my teeth than I was even there for), I kindly asked the front desk to please double check the invoice. “A very caring and skilled dentist I can rely on every time for the best treatment and advice. I've been going to Dr. Kanani for over 6 years now, even though I've moved away from Kitsilano. He always takes the time to listen and suggests the very best treatment for any of my dental needs. He also has a fstrong association with other specialized dentists if needed. “Dr. Kanani is a great dentist in every respect--very experienced, personable and doesn't try to sell you on work that is unnecessary (also doesn't use mercury fillings). I've been going to him for well over ten years. Now so is my wife and nephew. Be aware, though, that for certain more complex work like bridges he charges an additional "professional" fee over and above the dental association fee guidelines, which many other dentists I know of don't. Main Hygienist Celine is top notch. Unlike some others I've had over the years, I don't experience pain when she cleans the exposed root areas. She's also very informative about how to properly care for your teeth--I came in with bleeding gums and up to 8mm recession, but with regular teeth cleanings and following her guidelines re flossing/brushing they've recovered very well over the years. On a general note re any really major work he or any dentist is recommending, before getting it done get a second opinion from another dentist you are comfortable going to (get a recommendation for a second dentist from someone whose opinion you trust). It may be that the work being recommended isn't really urgent or even necessary, or there's an alternative fix that is much less invasive and costly. This has been true for me more than once in the past 25 years, and I'm so glad I took that extra step.”Read moreShow less
