When behaviour escalates, it’s often a signal - not a threat. This full-day professional learning experience invites educators and youth-serving professionals to slow down, look beneath the surface of behaviour, and respond through a nervous-system-informed, trauma-aware lens. Rooted in the work of Dr. Bruce Perry and Dr. Greg Hanley, this session reframes challenging behaviour as communication shaped by stress, unmet needs, and skill development, not willful defiance. Together, we explore how adult regulation, consistency, and shared language can shift school environments from reactive to responsive. Throughout the day, participants will: • Strengthen their understanding of how stress impacts the brain and learning • Develop practical strategies to support regulation during escalation • Reduce power struggles while maintaining clear, structured expectations • Move away from punitive or exclusionary responses toward dignity and safety This is not about lowering standards. It is about raising understanding - because when adults feel grounded and aligned, students feel safer, and learning becomes possible again.
