My role is to hold space for grief, help you feel less alone, and offer gentle, non judgmental care through one of life’s most heartbreaking experiences, from someone who has also experienced this. What does a loss support doula do? Emotional Support Creates a safe, compassionate space to express grief, anger, numbness, guilt, or confusion Offers non-clinical companionship before, during, and after loss Validates your experience, no matter the gestational age or circumstances Supports partners, siblings, or family members too Informational Support Helps explain: What to expect physically during miscarriage, stillbirth, or termination Your medical and legal options (cremation, burial, remains handling) Choices around induction, labour, or D&C procedures Rights to see or hold the baby if you choose Offers resources for grief support, therapy, bodywork, or spiritual care Helps you navigate hospitals or providers with trauma informed guidance Physical & Practical Support Supports you during: An in hospital or at home loss A medical procedure (D&C, induction, abortion) Provides: Comfort measures (positioning, breathing, touch if desired) Nourishment and hydration Help managing postpartum symptoms (bleeding, lactation suppression, etc.) Common types of loss Doulas support: Miscarriage (early or late) Stillbirth Termination for medical or personal reasons (TFMR) Ectopic pregnancy Molar pregnancy Neonatal death (shortly after birth) Pregnancy after loss (subsequent pregnancies)
