Wow, what an incredible place! I've been a patient in the clinic at OCTCM Toronto Campus and received exceptional care. And, recently, I've become a student studying acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. The instructors are knowledgable and helpful, my co-students are interesting and curious, and the place feels like home, welcoming and healing. The process as a patient and as a prospective student is carefully thought out and infused with empathy while setting high standards of learning and practice.Lire la suiteRéduire

I came here to get acupuncture for a shoulder injury I've been struggling with. After the pins were removed the doctor began rubbing and pulling my shoulder a bit aggressively. I trusted that everything would be fine but it's now been a week and I'm in more pain than when I went...Other from that everyone was very welcomingLire la suiteRéduire

I highly recommend the student clinic at this school. I have been a patient for the past five years having them treat my chronic arthritis, lower back pain and other alignments. The students are thorough in their questions and professors (who have years of experience) are ever present to find the best solutions. The value is priceless. The cost is very, very affordable. Treatments are usually two hours. A special shout out to the excellent professor - William (Yeejin) Sung.Lire la suiteRéduire

I arrived to this place looking for answers. Contradictions to my own family values had me really upset in my life. On top of that, I had been roughed up by the street. I sat on the sofa in the interior looking around and wondering where I was. I saw pictures of various cultures and my intuition had me believing I was in some place special When I looked up I saw a very friendly and kind doctor, and ran away. There are very few people with his integrity in town. From the workshops he told about death, to the funny way he tries to manage the weirdest rental space in the center of Toronto, on the busiest intersection in town, it's all fairytale and just will learn from far. 😊 There are very few people on town that keep the integrity of small business through much confrontation of outside ideas, but in this school, approaches to various perspectives of medicine are thought well. It's not perfect. I think the bigger picture is missing and I'm worried that the space might collapse in a flood or storm, but the intention is sacred I think it's time we concentrate on better thinking, and widespread change on ideas on herbal medicine. Even if it takes time, and becomes exhausting, and people in the neighbourhood are all together going through so many processes of change, especially in this neighbourhood. I find it hard to contribute to these ideas at all, when they are not accepted by my own family doctor I'm also not in the position to argue because my poor generation is starving, can barely afford these services, and will be in a constant face off with their families just to be able to pay rent and live where there is enough employment to buy toilet paper and a hug, and one joint at a weird poor quality herbal dispensary Everytime I growl and roar for them I'm charged with violations of another western mood disorder and have to sniff on my poor quality essential oilsLire la suiteRéduire

I had a deeply unsettling experience there. I went there for fertility related acupuncture which was a mistake since they are not specialized in fertility acupuncture. I had weekly treatments there for about 3 months. I went there for acupuncture only. But unfortunately, every week they kept pushing a treatment called moxibustion which is a complement to acupuncture and rarely performed in Canada. I did not like that treatment. It is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy which consists of burning dried mugwort on particular points on the body. Different techniques are available. The one they used the most was indirect moxibustion which is not directly on the body. Pretty harmless. But the smoke smell is absolutely horrible. It is very hard to breathe during the treatment. The small little room gets packed with smoke. After each treatment, my clothes, my hair and my body smelled as if I had just smoked a whole carton of cigarettes. I did research on that smoke and it is not healthy at all to breathe this in. After a while I told them I did not want to receive the moxibustion treatment anymore. That did not go over well with them. They kept saying that if I want to get pregnant I NEED to do the moxa treatment. We finally agreed on smokeless moxa treatment which was fine. Then on my last appointment I was just about to start the hormones injections part of my IVF treatment. They told me they would like to do a different technique of direct moxibustion on me since it was the last time they could do it on me ( later in my IVF treatment it is not recommended) The practionner in charge said he recommended for my case, a direct moxibustion treatment which can possibly cause blisters and burns but very rarely. Of course I was a bit turned off by the blisters and burns possibility but you also have to understand as a woman who’s been suffering from infertility for the past 3 years you are in a very vulnerable position. And hearing the practitioner tell me that this specific procedure will help me greatly to get pregnant, its hard to be put in this place. When I asked more questions about the blisters snd burns he minimized my concerns saying it was very minor and rarely happens. The practionner insisted it was essential for improving my chances of pregnancy despite my hesitation. They exploited my emotional state and vulnerability making me feel as though I had no choice but to agree. At no point was I given a clear explanation of the risks nor was my discomfort acknowledged. So I accepted reluctantly hoping for the best. The procedure was a horrible and very painful experience. They burned moxa directly on my back for about 30 minutes. It was painful and scary because as I felt the intensity of the burns I kept wondering what types of scars is this gonna leave on my back? So eventually the procedure did come to an end. The students in the room felt bad. They showed me a picture of my scars. I have 2 round red scars in my back. They said eventually the scars will fade and the burned skin will fall down. I could tell they were extremely uncomfortable. Rather than feeling empowered or cared for, I left the clinic feeling coerced and taken advantage of. The experience added stress to an already challenging journey. And now Im stuck with 2 red scars on my back for the rest of my life. I strongly caution anyone considering this clinic to save a few dollars especially if you’re in a vulnerable position. Obviously none of this worked and I did not get pregnant. Since then I went to an acupuncturist specialized in fertility and it was such a different experience, night and day. I was surprised when I didn’t feel any pain at all when they were inserting the needles. At the OCTCM I yelled so many times from extreme pain, the students seemed to think it was normal they kept on saying this one is sensitive…. I later learned it is not normal at all to scream from pain receiving acupuncture. Unfortunately the 2 permanent scars on my back will make this bad experience hard to forget.Lire la suiteRéduire

I studied at this campus in the earlier stages of my academic studies and left for a scholarship in a different province. I almost feel like it wasn't worth it! I missed this school the whole time, and would come back to visit. Dylan is a amazing dean who's values help create a supportive academic environment and set students up for success after graduation. The student environment is healthy, great lecturers, great view and a busy student clinic! :)Lire la suiteRéduire

I love this school! The staff at this school work so incredibly hard to make sure the needs of their students, faculty and patients are met and exceeded. As someone who has not only worked here, studied here, graduated from here and been a patient here I cannot recommend them enough. Dylan has done an exceptional job at running this campus and his care and dedication for his students extends past graduation. As an alumni, the community this school provided is still a huge part of my life and I'm so grateful for everything that Dylan and this school have done.Lire la suiteRéduire

I've been to OCTCM in all capacities: as a student, as a patient in the student clinic, and as a patient in the professional clinic. This is a well run facility operated by people with passion and great talent. The student clinic is an amazing resource to all those unsure about acupuncture, but also the very agreeable fee makes it a viable option even if you're income insecure. In the professional clinic I have had very positive experiences with both Dylan, who is the R. TCMP, and Max who is the Chiropractor. Finally, as a student who has spent countless hours at OCTCM, I can say I am overall very happy with the instruction I received and proud to have completed my studies here.Lire la suiteRéduire

Disappointed. I found OCTCM to be lacking in professionalism and proper communication skills. After my initial visit and tour of the school, I followed up with questions in emails as I was told that's the best method to reach them. On the contrary, it took them more than one month to reply each time. This only shows disorganization. It's also evident in their students low pass rate on the board exam. I'm glad I have found another school which values my time and interest to study TCM and acupuncture.Lire la suiteRéduire
