Dr. Derek’s academic journey is a testament to his dedication to both health sciences and sports. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences, with a concentration in Disability Studies, from Stony Brook University in New York while competing as a Division I lacrosse player. He then went on to achieve his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Northwestern Health Sciences University, graduating Magna Cum Laude.
His education, combined with years of training and recovery as a professional athlete, has shaped Dr. Derek's holistic approach to care. He utilizes evidence-based, individualized treatment plans, incorporating techniques like diversified adjusting, modified Gonstead adjustments, myofascial release, joint mobilizations, and therapeutic exercise. Dr. Derek is also committed to continuing education, currently expanding his expertise in concussion protocol, radiology, and musculoskeletal rehabilitation.
In 2019, Dr. Derek was drafted to the Vancouver Warriors of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) and played multiple seasons with the franchise. His firsthand experience with sports injuries and recovery enables him to offer unparalleled insight into the rehabilitation process for athletes of all levels.
Dr. Derek works with patients of all ages and activity levels, including elite youth athletes. He has experience serving as sideline support for the Elev8 Lacrosse Program, where he managed on-field injuries, provided treatment, and created long-term recovery plans for players. His passion is helping individuals improve their quality of life, increase mobility, and achieve their personal goals.
Outside of the office, Dr. Derek is often on the golf course, at the movies, or playing lacrosse. This summer, he's excited to join the Sr. A Victoria Shamrocks and compete in front of the local crowd.
