About Alex

Their own words
Many of the people I work with are trying to make sense of patterns that feel painful, persistent, or difficult to shift. They may be struggling with trauma, substance use, sexuality-related concerns, or longstanding personality dynamics, and often arrive feeling ashamed, overwhelmed, or uncertain about how to move forward. In our work together, I aim to create a grounded and thoughtful space where things can slow down enough to be understood more clearly. Together, we look at the patterns, beliefs, and emotional responses that may be keeping someone stuck, while building safer and more adaptive ways of coping. My goal is for therapy to feel steady, honest, and clinically meaningful; a place where people can better understand themselves, strengthen their sense of direction, and move toward change with greater clarity and intention. I have particular experience supporting gay men who are navigating substance use, including methamphetamine addiction, compulsive sexual behaviour, and intimacy concerns. This work has deepened my understanding of how trauma, minority stress, shame, attachment, and coping strategies can become closely intertwined. My practice includes work with individuals who are legally involved, including those with legal histories related to sexual offences and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). My approach is integrative, drawing from Narrative Therapy, Somatic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, and Trauma Focused CBT. Working within a supervised psychology placement in a forensic setting has continued to deepen my work in this area. It has also strengthened my skills in psychological assessment, diagnostic formulation, personality functioning, and clinically informed case conceptualization. My work is supervised by Dr. Ainslie Heasman and Dr. J. Christine Rose, registered clinical and forensic psychologists.
