About Alyssa
Their own wordsAlyssa's Background and Approach
Alyssa graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy (UBC, 2005) and a Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation (UBC, 2008). She has extensive experience as an OT in pediatric feeding, Developmental Coordination Disorder, and the CO-OP approach. In addition, Alyssa is an internationally board-certified lactation consultant and a trained perinatal mental health provider.
Throughout her career, Alyssa has participated in numerous volunteer and paid opportunities, continually seeking formal supervision and ongoing professional development. She has presented at national and international conferences on the role of occupational therapy in perinatal health and lactation consulting and contributed to published literature. Alyssa is also a Clinical Instructor at the UBC Faculty of Medicine School of Occupational Science & Occupational Therapy.
Alyssa's Philosophy
Alyssa recognizes that parents navigate significant shifts in their roles and well-being during this transitionary life stage. She believes that how you feel while engaging in your daily activities matters. New parents, in particular, thrive with connection, community, and hands-on support.
Alyssa emphasizes that seeking help during this stage is normal and doesn’t mean you are failing as a parent. It's about getting the support you need when things get tough and recognizing that all parents learn as they go. You don’t have to face these challenges alone. By reaching out to others and exploring resources, you can discover strategies that work for you and your family to live well.
Alyssa’s Passion for Support
Alyssa is passionate about offering occupational therapy services to support parents and children in feeding difficulties, developmental activities, mental health, executive functioning, and participation in daily occupations.
Alyssa is thrilled to work at Canopy Health alongside a team of providers, fostering collaboration and continuity of care for families.
Outside of Work
When not supporting clients, Alyssa is an active youth sports volunteer. With three kids at home, she spends much time chauffeuring them around the North Shore but also enjoys spending quality outdoor time with her family and friends.
