AjouterDr. Mackenzie Thurston is a chiropractor and owner of Parkwood Chiropractic Centre. She graduated from New York Chiropractic College in 2017 and practiced In her hometown of Ottawa, Ontario at various multi-disciplinary clinics including sports medicine, hospital settings, and regular family practice prior to moving to the Muskoka region with her partner who has family roots in Huntsville.
Dr. Thurston has a wide variety of knowledge and experience in chiropractic, health and wellness. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a minor in Biology and Ice Hockey Coaching at Bemidji State University in Minnesota where she was fortunate to play NCAA Division I hockey for 4 years.

Since completing chiropractic college, Dr. Thurston has put in many hours advancing her education to best serve her patients. She has completed her Medical/Neuro Functional Acupuncture program at MacMaster University, Complete Concussion Management, Athletic Movement Assessment, Integrated Kinetic Neurology, Kinesiology Taping, Rock Tape FMT Movement certification, Active Release Technique, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization, Custom Stabilizing Orthotics, Activator Method and First Aid, CPR, AED Care.
Her background and education has afforded her a valuable experience in examining, diagnosing and treating a diverse population.
In her spare time you can find Dr. Thurston playing sports, exercising, paddling, camping, snowboarding, and most certainly spending time with her dog Ricki.

This visit allows your practitioner to review your current symptoms, assess any changes in your condition, and update your treatment plan before resuming care.

A Concussion Baseline Test is completed before an injury occurs and measures how your brain functions when you are healthy. The assessment includes a series of physical and cognitive tests that evaluate areas such as memory, concentration, reaction time, balance, and symptom status. These test are typically designed for people who are participating in sports, that may or may include sports If you experience a concussion in the future, your baseline results can be compared to your post-injury performance, providing valuable information about your recovery and helping your healthcare provider make safer return-to-sport, work, school, and activity recommendations.
This appointment is for patients who have already completed a Concussion Initial Visit and are continuing their recovery. During this visit, your practitioner will review your symptoms and progress, monitor your recovery, assess your readiness for increased activity, and update your treatment recommendations as needed to support a safe return to work, school, sport, and daily activities.
If you have recently or in the past have experienced a concussion or suspect you may have sustained a concussion, please book this appointment. During your initial visit, your practitioner will conduct a comprehensive assessment, review your symptoms and medical history, evaluate your neurological and functional status, and develop an individualized management plan to support your recovery and safe return to daily activities, work, school, or sport.
This appointment is for patients interested in custom foot orthotics. During the assessment, your practitioner will review your health history, discuss your symptoms and goals, evaluate your posture, gait, and foot mechanics, measurements and/or a digital foot scan will be completed to facilitate the fabrication of your custom orthotics.
This appointment is for children, high school students, college students, and university students who have already completed an initial assessment and are continuing care. During the visit, your practitioner will review your progress, address any ongoing concerns, monitor your response to treatment, and adjust your care plan as needed to support your health, recovery, and overall well-being.
