Jim Cheung is a Registered Psychotherapist with seven years of experience as a clinical psychologist in a public service agency in Hong Kong. Since moving to Toronto, Jim has continued his work in community mental health, offering psychotherapy within organizations serving 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. In his practice, Jim focuses on supporting individual and couple clients within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community as well as BIPOC newcomers and children of immigrants. His work centres around the intersection of identity, relationship, and culture. Jim is committed to offering a thoughtful, affirming, and culturally attuned therapeutic space for all clients he works with.
Hi, I’m Jim. I’m a queer person of colour and an immigrant, and these identities not only shape who I am as a person, but also the way I show up as a therapist. I understand firsthand the complexities of navigating identity, cultural expectations, and relationship dynamics—especially for those of us who move between different cultures or who hold multiple marginalized identities. My work is grounded in helping clients feel understood, supported, and empowered in the fullness of who they are.
Much of my clinical experience has focused on queer relationships, sexual identity, intimacy, and the unique challenges that come with them, including ethical non-monogamy, sexuality concerns, substance use, HIV stigma and the impact of minority stress on emotional well-being. I aim to create a warm, non-judgmental space where you can explore your experiences honestly—whether you’re processing relationships, navigating identity, or wanting to feel more settled and connected to yourself.
