Jess Picco, RCC
About Jess
Their own wordsIf you're someone who thinks well but struggles to access emotions or feel connected to your body, or you carry a persistent sense that you're "not enough" or "don't matter," Jess works with people in exactly this territory. She works with adults, couples and teens, and her practice is queer-affirming, delivered by a cisqueer counsellor.
Jess draws on Satir Theory (using the iceberg metaphor to examine relationships to self, others and context), somatic approaches (bodymind connection, walk and talk, EMDR), narrative questions to explore family and sociocultural context, and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. In the room, that looks like a blend of structure and flow. She asks questions, uses metaphors and visuals and expands the concern to broader context.
Jess does her best work with clients breaking from and bending sociocultural norms, cognitive clients wanting to build a stronger connection to their body and emotions, and clients open to EMDR or exploring their sociocultural context.
Jess believes therapy happens outside the room, sometimes more than in it. Her sessions periodically check in on your goals and hopes, and she brings attention to how the awareness you build in session gets practiced in your relationships and communities.
