About Kirsten
Kirsten has a Masters Degree in Clinical Psychology from Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and is
a Registered Psychologist (#2947) with the College of Health and Care professionals of BC (previously
the College of Psychologists of BC). She is also currently a Registered Clinical Counsellor (#19564)
with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors.
She aims to provide a safe space where curiosity and vulnerability are welcomed. Her style is open,
interested, and analytical. She will work with you to understand the origins of your struggles and
how to use that insight, in conjunction with the tools she can help you develop, to make the changes
in your life that you need. Kirsten believes we are all capable of change if we are ready and willing to
put in the work.
Her therapeutic approach is grounded in science. All the forms of assessment, diagnosis and
treatment she employs have strong bodies of evidence behind them, and they acknowledge the
complex interactions between brain, body, relationships, and the world we inhabit. She works with
clients to choose the best approach for their needs and can adapt as the process progresses,
ensuring that the approach fits the client, not the other way around.
The therapeutic approaches she uses, and draws on, include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT),
psychodynamic psychotherapy (brief and longer-term), eye movement desensitization and
reprocessing therapy (EMDR), mindfulness-based interventions, and the Gottman method for
couples. She works with adults and couples. Her special interests include trauma processing, chronic
relationship struggles, identity development, sexuality, couples therapy/couples counselling, and
mind-body connection.
If you think Kirsten might be a good fit for you, you are welcome to get in touch to set up an initial
session. She does not charge for the initial session if you decide not to continue working together.
