About Kourtney

Their own words
###Registered Provisional Psychologist #####I am a Registered Provisional Psychologist who specializes in working with adults toward coping better and finding healthier solutions. My personal and professional experience have allowed me to understand that struggling with mental health concerns can weigh you down and have deep-rooted impacts in all areas of our lives. I also understand how aspects of life like relationship issues, workplace stress, our environment, and lack of social supports might also negatively contribute to mental health concerns. I work collaboratively with adults experiencing loneliness, lack of connection, relationships challenges, life or workplace stress, adult bullying and harassment, emotional dysregulation, burnout, unhealthy coping habits, anxiety, depression, and anger management. My extensive previous experience working in the oil and gas industry before transitioning into a career in mental health has equipped me with a specific understanding of workplace and industry impacts on mental health. I am especially passionate about working with men and women who are navigating tough workplace situations and relationships, job loss, co-worker harassment or bullying, toxic environments, life transitions, separation and divorce, and more. I am dedicated to establishing a confidential therapeutic environment where you can feel understood, safe and supported, while working through the challenging stuff on your plate. #####It takes courage to decide to engage in therapy. I will walk alongside you on this journey. Seeking help is not a weakness and you don’t have to struggle alone. Together, we will explore the situations and areas where you feel stuck; seek deeper understanding of your thoughts, feelings, behaviours, and reactions; make sense of the events in your life; develop new coping skills, and work towards your goals, next steps, or solutions. Seizing the opportunity to make positive changes, choosing to manage life differently, and learning new tools and techniques can not only be life-changing but also provide clarity and certainty. Conscious and unconscious core beliefs about self and others, feelings of being “stuck” and not being able to break through trauma or mental blocks can impact opportunities for growth, healing, and change. In therapy, we can tackle these areas so we can move you from feeling stuck to building forward momentum. Oftentimes, learning the knowledge and applying the knowledge are two different skill sets. Problems that feel too big to tackle can seem daunting and overwhelming, breaking ineffective patterns and developing newer and healthier strategies is achievable. I am here to support you through whatever challenges you are dealing with. “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” Lao Tzu. #####You are not alone on your mental health journey. My therapeutic approach is eclectic and based on the uniqueness of every individual’s situation and circumstance. Integrating therapeutic techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Self-Compassion, Somatic Therapy, Positive Psychology, Eye Movement Desensitization and Processing Therapy (EMDR), and Trauma Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (TFACT), we will work together to heal from negative situations and develop effective strategies, coping skills and techniques. My goal is to collaborate with my clients, meeting them where they are to achieve result-based outcomes. Knowing, identifying, and understanding the strategies and steps to achieve your goals matters and together we can make that happen. Currently, I am enrolled in a doctoral program where I can stay up to date with research that provides results and understanding on a deeper level of peoples lived experiences. You can expect an authentic, genuine, and honest therapeutic process that helps you delve into vulnerability and face your fears and challenges from a strengths-based approach. ####Professional Background - Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology, Yorkville University - Bachelor Of Education, University of Alberta - Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, University of Calgary - Graduate Work and Research in Neuropsychology, University of Victoria ####Areas of Support - ADHD - Anger Management - Anxiety - Behavioral Changes - Boundaries - Brain Injury - Change Management - Chronic and Acute Illness - Chronic Pain Management - Codependency - Communication Skills and Techniques - Conflict Resolution - Coping Skills - Depression - Emotional Regulation - Grief - Life Stress and Transitions - Mental Health & Wellness - Narcissistic relationships or parents - Peer and Co-worker relationships - Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) - Self-esteem, Self-Worth, and Self-Confidence - Sleep or Insomnia - Stress - Trauma - Workplace toxicity, bullying, and harassment ####Approaches Used - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - EMDR - Solution Focussed Therapy - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - Strengths Based - Person Centered - Mindfulness - Positive Psychology
