About Mikaela

Their own words
I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University, as well as a Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in Addictions Counselling from the University of Lethbridge, where I also had the privilege of competing as a varsity athlete on the Women’s Hockey Team. My professional experience includes working as a caseworker with Big Brothers Big Sisters, supporting children and youth, and coaching at the Okanagan Hockey Academy for the past three years. I am passionate about supporting individuals, children, youth, and families in Penticton and the surrounding communities as they navigate life’s challenges and pursue meaningful change. My clinical interests include anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), substance use, life transitions, and supporting athletes both current and retired as they navigate identity, performance pressures, and transitions out of sport. I also enjoy working with children and youth, helping them build emotional awareness, coping skills, and confidence. My counselling approach is client-centred and collaborative, grounded in the belief that your experiences, values, and goals should guide our work together. I draw from evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), trauma informed care, and other therapeutic modalities, tailoring interventions to best fit your unique needs and circumstances. Above all, I prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship and creating a safe, supportive space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours with curiosity and compassion. My goal is to support you in gaining insight, developing effective coping strategies, and moving toward meaningful and lasting change.
