Niki Whitefield
Life is a journey, with many bumps and unexpected detours along the way. Niki believes that people are
the experts in their lives, possessing many strengths and resources that can be utilized in their journey. There are times in life when we may benefit from some navigation support - your journey does not need
to be a solo mission! Working from this collaborative, strengths-based approach, she strives to help
people increase intentionality, identify solutions, and develop mechanisms to facilitate the change that

they desire. Niki is passionate about creating a safe therapeutic environment that is authentic,
accepting, and supportive.
Niki is trained in Animal Assisted Therapy and utilizes the expertise of her Facility Support Dog, Indra
(see bio), in some of her sessions. Niki’s practice is rooted in family systems theory which emphasizes
the important influence of patterned relationship experiences. She also utilizes cognitive behavioural
therapy, dialectic behavioural therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and solution-focused
strategies in her practice.
Niki has a master’s degree in counselling psychology and 17 years of experience working with children,
adolescents, adults, and families. Her expertise includes relationship conflict, mental illness, school-related challenges, parenting difficulties, and neurodiversity. In addition to family and couples counselling, Niki works with individuals of all ages who have experienced trauma, depression, anxiety,
and other stressful life events.
Niki is 2SLGBTQ+ affirming and works with clients across Alberta. Virtual and in-person sessions are
available.

An education and counselling group for neurodivergent (ADHD & Autistic) young adults ages 18-24. This group runs on Wednesday evenings from September 10 to October 29. Registration is for all 8 sessions for a total price of $540.
