AjouterInitially, my passion for massage was fueled by the question, "How do you get in there?" How do you wind in to the heart of the problem, smooth it, melt it, unstick it, whatever, and come back out having accomplished something? The layout of muscle and bone still fascinates me, although not with quite the same nerdy obsession. Intuitive by nature, I wanted to have an actual concrete way of helping people, and always found touch to be an effective communicator.

I wasn't patient when I was first curious about massage. I did a 6 month course at Maui School of Therapeutic Massage, and managed to pass with decent grades despite spending my weekends hitchhiking around the island picking tropical fruit and learning what beaches you could sleep on and not wake up soaked from a random high wave. All my textbooks were filled with sand.
Seven years later, after working at spas, fast food, organic retail, cleaning jobs, etc, I realized that I actually liked massage enough to go to school for 3 years. So my child entered kindergarten and I began massage school, again. I graduated from OVCMT in January 2011. I worked in Vernon at first, had another baby, worked in Abbotsford briefly, then came back to the Okanagan, working in various clinics and doing mobile massage, before beginning at Nexus Therapeutics.
In my practice, I tailor each massage to meet my clients specific needs. I draw from such tools as Swedish massage, deep tissue, myofascial release, muscle energy, TMJ, visceral, and CranioSacral Therapy. I also supervise students in the Student Clinic and Outreach Program for OVCMT, and enjoy watching them learn, and being reminded of my initial passion for how all the layers of fascia fit and work together.

Head injuries, whiplash injuries and other spinal traumas can be assessed with review of patient history and a thorough check in with neurological and musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Treatment for acute and chronic concussion syndrome includes neural manipulation, craniosacral therapy, visceral manipulation and other manual therapies.
CranioSacral Therapy focused Registered Massage Therapist Visit. Other modalities can be included to suit individual needs. CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle technique that improves the functioning of the central nervous system,. As a result of balancing nerve function, there is also benefit for the digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory and circulatory systems. CST has also been shown to help with the physical components of post traumatic stress, depression and anxiety.
Osteopathy based treatment with focus on finding and treating the cause of the pain, not just the symptoms. Techniques used include cranio-sacral therapy, neural and visceral manipulation, muscle energy therapy and positional release therapy. These modalities can be used separately or in conjunction with conventional deep tissue and relaxation massage techniques.
Private Pilates Session - 30 minutes Your Pilates session is tailored to your needs. Using Mat and Chair equipment, the focus is decompression of joints, uniform strengthening and improvement of balance.

Posture and gait analysis that provides the patient with effective changes for standing, sitting, working and walking habits and postures. Strategies to help with changes in activities of daily living are used to help encourage decompression of joints. Use of simple exercises and props are discussed to support postural awareness and overall joint health.

Visceral Manipulation uses manual listening techniques to assess and treat the body's areas of greatest restrictions and decreased function. By applying gentle pressure to the abdomen and thorax, the therapist can release tensions and enhance the internal mechanisms of our gastrointestinal (gut), cardiovascular and genitourinary health. Restoring functional relationships in our organs gives us relief of abdominal, muscle and joint pain, improvement of posture and increased health and function of the digestive, cardiovascular and genitourinary (bowel/bladder) systems.
