Hello, my name is Rose. I would like to thank you for taking the time to learn more about me and my approaches to counseling.
I strive to create an affirming and empowering space where people feel seen, heard, and supported in their unique journeys. My counselling approach is collaborative - I work with people, wherever they are at, to co-construct meaningful goals, support the discovery of insights, strengths, and resources, and identify practical strategies to address life’s challenges and improve well-being.
The people I work with too often experience discrimination and oppression related to disability, race, class, gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation. In my counselling practice, I draw on and integrate disability justice principles as well as anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and 2SLGBTQIA+-affirming approaches. I work with secondary / post-secondary students, neurodiverse, disabled, chronically ill, and/or 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, couples, families, chosen families, people seeking support for mental health and substance use concerns, stress, academic and career changes, people in consensual non-monogamous and polyamorous relationships, people navigating parenting, and/or building communications and relationships. I include elements of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), narrative therapy, the Gottman Method, and strengths-based practice in my work.
To this role, I bring twenty-four years of experience within various roles across the social services sector. I am a Registered Social Worker (RSW) with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), a member of the Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW), and a member of the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC).
My educational background is multidisciplinary. I hold a Social Service Worker Diploma and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Human Resources Management from Conestoga College; an Honours Bachelor of Arts, a Diploma of General Studies in Social Work, and a Certificate in Studies of Child Abuse from the University of Waterloo; a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Victoria; and a Master of Social Work from Dalhousie University. Aligned with my commitment to lifelong learning, I am in the final stages of a PhD in Social Work.
I am available for appointments on Wednesdays, virtually or in-person. Choosing a therapist is an important process. I offer a no-cost, 20-minute phone or video consultation, if you wish to ask questions, learn more about me, and my approaches to counselling. I look forward to connecting with you.
