About Samantha

Their own words
###Registered Provisional Psychologist #####I am a skilled and compassionate therapist who works with teens, adults, and couples who have experienced trauma, anxiety, abuse, grief, and those who are struggling with stress, coping or substance use. With over eight years of experience in the addiction and mental health field, I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse populations and a wide range of psychological concerns in both community and private practice settings. My areas of expertise include trauma, addiction, depression, and anxiety. I have extensive experience supporting individuals who have faced various forms of trauma, including PTSD, childhood trauma, domestic violence, medical trauma, race-based trauma, traumatic grief, and sexual abuse. When working with couples, my goal is to help clients build and sustain healthy, fulfilling relationships. I support couples in improving communication, deepening emotional connection, and navigating conflict with greater understanding. My approach is focused on helping you better understand your relationship dynamics and develop effective conflict resolution skills. I’ve worked with couples facing a variety of concerns such as communication breakdowns, intimacy issues, trust and infidelity, and major life transitions. #####Coping strategies are a vital part of maintaining our mental well-being. Since coping skills are the tools we use to navigate life’s challenges, I believe it's essential to explore strategies for emotional regulation and skill-building in our work together. My goal is to help you develop new tools to manage stress and navigate difficult situations more effectively. Healthy coping strategies can include strengthening problem-solving abilities, enhancing emotional regulation, practicing mindfulness, and improving communication skills. These skills can lead to meaningful, positive changes in your daily life. #####My practice is rooted in helping clients work toward mental wellness and meaningful personal growth. While I have training in a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, I lead with a person-centred philosophy. This means I will meet you where you are in your journey and walk alongside you as you work toward healing and a more fulfilling life. I believe that each person brings their own unique experiences, challenges, and strengths to the therapeutic process. Because of this, I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, I use an integrated style, drawing from multiple evidence-based practices to tailor treatment to your individual needs and goals. My aim is to empower you to regain a sense of control and confidence in your life. At the heart of my approach is building a genuine, trusting connection—I truly believe that the therapeutic relationship is key to making our work together meaningful and effective. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can explore, heal, and grow. I look forward to being a part of your journey! ####Educational Background - Master of Arts in Counselling (MC) - City University of Seattle - Addiction Studies Extension Certificate - Mount Royal University - Bachelor of Arts (BA) with Psychology Major - MacEwan University ####Presenting Concerns - Abandonment - Abuse/Survivors of Abuse - Academic Concerns - Addictions and Compulsions - Adjusting to Change - Adolescent Issues - Aggression and Violence - Alcohol and Drugs - Anger - Anxiety - Attachment Issues - Body Image - Borderline Personality - Breakup - Complex Posttraumatic Stress (C-PTSD) - Coping - Drug and Alcohol Addiction - Dysregulation - Emotional Overwhelm - Emotional Regulation - Emptiness - Family Problems - First Responder - Gambling - Grief, Loss, and Bereavement - Life Challenges/ Transitions - Loss - Mood Swings - Neglect - Panic and Panic Attacks - Perfectionism - Personal Development - Posttraumatic Stress (PTSD) - Self-Care - Self-Compassion - Self-Esteem - Smoking Cessation - Stress - Substance Use - Trauma ####Approaches Used - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - Art Therapy - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) - Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy - Gottman Method - Mindfully-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Therapy - Motivational Interviewing - Person Centered Therapy - Solution Focussed Therapy (SFT) - Strength Based - Trauma Focussed - Trauma Informed ####Additional Skills/Training - Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) - Mental Health First Aid - Suicide Prevention, Risk Assessment & Management (SPRAM) Certificate ####Professional Associations/Regulatory Board - College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) - Psychologist’s Association of Alberta (PAA)
