My path to physiotherapy was an unexpected one: while studying marine biology, I worked in a medical imaging department and gained an appreciation for the impact of compassionate care. Later, my own experience with physiotherapy showed me how meaningful it can be to regain the ability to do the things you enjoy. That experience inspired me to redirect my studies toward the profession. Today, I enjoy combining analytical problem-solving with the opportunity to help people move better and return to the activities that matter most to them. My approach to physiotherapy is grounded in listening. I strive to create a space where you feel heard, understood, and supported throughout the rehabilitation process. By taking the time to learn about your experiences, goals, and priorities, we can work together to create a plan that feels practical, collaborative, and aligned with what matters most to you. I take an active approach to rehabilitation, incorporating hands-on techniques when they can help facilitate progress. I enjoy working with people experiencing a wide range of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions, alongside a particular interest in concussion and vestibular rehabilitation, including dizziness and balance concerns. I find it rewarding to explore the many factors that can contribute to symptoms and recovery, and I am committed to ongoing learning so I can continue bringing new knowledge into my practice. Outside the clinic, you'll usually find me spending time with my family (mostly chasing after my two young kids), mountain biking, trail running, or puttering around in my garden. And in case you were wondering, I still have an appetite for learning about marine life when I get the chance! The decision to pursue a career in physiotherapy took Vanessa to Scotland where she completed her Masters of Science in Physiotherapy at Glasgow Caledonian University. Although living in the United Kingdom was a great adventure and gave her an international perspective on healthcare practice, Vanessa was excited to return to and serve her hometown of Victoria. Since completing the program, Vanessa’s drive to continue her professional development has never dwindled. She has taken courses in manual therapy, pain science, IMS/dry needling, concussion management, and vestibular (dizziness) rehabilitation. As a physiotherapist, Vanessa strongly believes in taking the time to really listen to a patient’s story, addressing their worries or concerns, and understanding their values and goals. Vanessa is thrilled to work among other healthcare practitioners who share her enthusiasm for clinical application of current research and the ever-evolving development of patient care. She deeply values the philosophy of Tall Tree Integrated Health Centre, which fosters a culture of collaboration, curiosity, and on-going learning. Further, Vanessa is delighted to return to and practice in Cordova Bay- the neighbourhood she grew up in. Outside of the clinic, Vanessa leads and active lifestyle- she can usually be found in the forest testing her bravery and skills on a mountain bike, trail running with Roscoe the grumpy cattle dog, or spending time with family and friends.

Vestibular rehabilitation is a graded-exercise approach to treating balance and dizziness disorders. A physiotherapist will perform a detailed assessment to determine the type of vestibular dysfunction you present with and then design an individualized exercise program to reduce symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, or feelings of unsteadiness. These issues can occur throughout the course of life and vestibular rehabilitation has been shown to help people reduce symptoms and continue doing the things they love!
