Yael Shoham
About Yael
Their own wordsYael Shoham (she/her) is an open-minded and compassionate social worker and psychotherapist.
She loves supporting folks who want to learn, grow, and discover more about themselves. Yael brings a foundation of education and lived experience, as well as bilingual abilities (English & Hebrew), to her therapy sessions at Kaleidoscope Counselling Collective.
As a neurodivergent and queer person with a previous history of disability, Yael is deeply passionate about destigmatization and self-acceptance. Society is filled with preconceived ideas, so it’s crucial to unpack the disparity between societal expectations and our desires to successfully find the balance and navigate the world effectively. She champions empathy and a personalized approach for each client. She believes it is crucial to consider the individual, their past, and their environment in order to identify and work towards therapeutic goals.
Yael’s practice is trauma-informed and affirming of neurodivergence, LGBTQIA+ identities, sex work, kink dynamics, and all relationship structures. In addition to supporting people navigating this society through the lens of identity, Yael aims to support folks who are struggling with anxiety, depression, and other mental health needs.
Yael is always learning and growing, personally and professionally. She has pursued extra training in trauma, interpersonal violence, cultural diversity, social work ethics, and more. She utilizes many evidence-based practices and creative therapy modalities to serve her clients well.
Outside of her clinical work, Yael enjoys spending time with her loved ones and her senior pup. Whether it be playing games, crafting, or spending time laughing with friends, a mix of cozy and outgoing keeps her recharged.
Yael is currently accepting clients with openings on weekdays and limited weekend availability upon request.
