The pelvic floor is made up of small muscles that support and hold up the bladder, bowels, rectum and uterus as well as their associated ligaments, fascia and nerves. They work with the deep abdominal/back muscles and the diaphragm to stabilize and support the spine. Like all muscles, they need to be strengthened when weak and relaxed when too tight in order to perform optimally.
