Women’s health specific physiotherapy addresses concerns related to pelvic muscle function, pregnancy, and postpartum recovery. Common issues include pelvic girdle pain, low back or hip discomfort, rib stiffness, breathing changes, and diastasis recti. These symptoms are common and treatable.
Your assessment includes an external evaluation of posture, breathing, abdominal control, hip and pelvic alignment, and muscular tension to determine whether the pelvic floor may be overactive, underactive, or uncoordinated. Treatment may involve education on breathing mechanics, gentle mobility work, strength and stability exercises, postpartum abdominal wall rehabilitation, core coordination training, and load management strategies to support both daily activity and return to exercise.
If internal pelvic floor examination is needed, referral to a pelvic floor physiotherapist is provided.

What it is
Most of this first physiotherapy visit is spent figuring out what’s driving the problem — history, movement, strength and hands-on testing — then some treatment if there’s time, and you leave with a clearer picture and a plan for what comes next.
