Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is a gentle type of massage that helps move lymph fluid through the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system is part of the body’s immune system and helps remove waste, toxins, and extra fluid from the tissues.
During a manual lymphatic drainage treatment, the therapist uses light, slow, and rhythmic hand movements to stimulate the lymph vessels and encourage the natural flow of lymph fluid toward the lymph nodes. This helps reduce swelling, improve circulation of lymph, and support the body’s ability to remove waste and fight infection.
MLD is often used to help people with swelling (called lymphedema), after surgery, after injury, or for general detoxification and relaxation. Because the lymphatic vessels are close to the surface of the skin, the pressure used in this treatment is very light compared to regular massage.
