Facial Palsy results from damage to the facial nerve for a variety of reasons. It can cause the face to stop moving on one or more rarely both sides of the face. Sometimes the facial nerve recovers quite quickly (days to a few weeks) and at other times it might take longer (months). Typical diagnoses include: Bell’s palsy, Ramsay Hunt syndrome, Acoustic neuromas/Vestibular schwannomas, trauma, congenital facial palsy, Lyme disease and others. Facial Neuromuscular Retraining will help you learn how to use your facial muscles again through soft tissue mobilization and specific retraining strategies to regain coordination and balance in your face. This treatment is especially useful if you develop synkinesis or abnormal movement patterns.
