Use of a tool or instrument for the treatment of disease or discomfort; a therapeutic modality and manual therapy technique that when combined with rehabilitative exercises improves musculoskeletal function.
IASTM is performed on specific fascia, tendon, muscle or ligaments for western manual therapy rationales and evidence based outcomes. Improved tissue pliability, increased local blood flow and range of motion, tissue release is the desired result.
Light petechia/bruising are sometimes the incidental but never the goal of IASTM.
