A trigger point injection (TPI) is used to release tight, knotted muscle bands that cause localized pain or refer pain to other areas. It helps reduce muscle tension, improve mobility, and relieve chronic or acute myofascial pain. TPIs can quickly deactivate painful trigger points, making them useful for neck, shoulder, back, and headache-related muscle tension. Ingredients typically include a small amount of local anesthetic (such as lidocaine or procaine) and sometimes saline, injected directly into the trigger point to relax the muscle and break the pain cycle.
