The Traditional Perspective: If acupuncture is about moving energy, Cupping is about clearing the old to make room for the new. Using glass or silicone cups to create a vacuum on the skin, this therapy draws "Stagnant Blood" and toxins to the surface. In TCM, we use this to dispel Dampness and Cold from the body and to break up "Blood Stasis;" It is particularly effective for "releasing the exterior"—essentially pulling a stubborn cold or deep-seated tension out of the
muscle layer.
The Modern Clinical Perspective: Cupping acts like a "reverse massage." Instead of pushing down on the muscles, it uses suction to pull the skin, fascia, and top muscle layers upward. This creates space between the tissues, significantly increasing blood flow, stretching the fascia, and triggering the lymphatic system to drain metabolic waste. The signature "circles" left behind are not bruises, but a visual representation of the increased blood flow and cellular repair occurring in that area.
