The UBC Humanities Community Program is offering free, non-credit university courses to Vancouver Friends For Life clients. This year, UBC is offering two courses: Hum 101 and Hum 201 (the latter is only for those who complete Hum 101). Both are eight-month courses focused on the Arts and Social Sciences. The theme this year is “Mutual Flourishing,” with a different professor teaching a new topic each week. Topics include First Nations Studies, history, politics, anthropology, art, philosophy, literature, sociology, gender studies, economics, digital culture, popular culture, and more. Participants receive school supplies, UBC student cards, bus tickets to get to and from class, meals, and funding for childcare if needed.
To apply, you’ll need to attend an information/application session to learn more about what to expect as a participant. The session runs for approximately 90 minutes and includes an introduction to the program, time for questions, and distribution of application forms for anyone interested.

Most of the hour is spent talking through what’s been happening, how you’ve been reacting, and what patterns keep showing up — your counsellor asks questions, reflects things back, and helps you put words to it — so you leave with a clearer sense of what came up and what to keep noticing between sessions.
