Consultation (Student-Athlete)

This is a brief consultation to discuss your goals, concerns, and determine whether psychology services are the right fit for you. This consultation is an opportunity to ask questions, learn about the therapeutic process, and discuss potential next steps. Common concerns and conditions include: persistent low mood, injury recovery, career-ending injuries, anxiety disorders, and specific struggles related to neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD, Autism, and Learning disabilities. Please note that formal diagnostic assessments for ADHD, Autism, and other neurodevelopmental conditions are not provided through this service. Athletes seeking assessment may be referred to appropriate community providers for testing. Suitable for University of Alberta varsity athletes seeking support with sport performance or mental health concerns. No referral is required. Please note that booking a consultation does not guarantee access to ongoing psychology services. Recommendations regarding follow-up care and service eligibility will be determined by the psychologist based on clinical needs, scope of practice, and service availability.

Most of the hour is spent talking through what’s been happening, how you’ve been reacting, and what patterns keep showing up — your counsellor asks questions, reflects things back, and helps you put words to it — so you leave with a clearer sense of what came up and what to keep noticing between sessions.
